Masonic Temple
We are seeing signs of progress outside the Masonic Temple. Right now, the district staple is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. Built in 1922 by renowned African American architect Robert Robinson Taylor, the Masonic Temple became known as a social hub. Besides leasing to notable African American professionals, the Temple also housed the offices of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Ms. Samone Lewis has been in the tattoo industry for several years and is also a veteran. She is excited to enter a space with so much history and is excited to learn more about the district and grow within it.
“I wanted to come to the district because this is a place where Black business owners have thrived, and I want to become a part of that legacy.” Lewis ushers in a new industry into the district but says it’s a place for everyone. “I want to set an example for others and show them if I can grow my business here, so can you!”
