Collaboration is Key

Generation after generation, people from Birmingham and others across the country have traveled downtown to get fried chicken from Green Acres “all the way!” As owner Greg Gratton tells us, “People come in all the time and share stories of how their parents brought them, and now they bring their children.”

This tradition is one shared by neighboring Historic 4th Avenue Business District entrepreneur, and “Fly V” owner Andrew Jones. Jones says Green Acres has been a staple in his family, the City of Birmingham, and beyond. “It’s legendary,” Jones shared. This was a part of the reason Jones reached out to Green Acres with the proposal of an apparel line. “Green Acres is a destination; they needed a souvenir.” Now you can get more than famous chicken. There are 3 new shirts, featuring tag lines we all will recognize or at least can agree with: “Try it and you’ll like it”, “A taste to remember”, and “All the way”. There are also two hats that feature the business logo. Mr. Gratton says this was an amazing idea, and he was immediately onboard. He was really excited to drop the line during Black History Month as he says this is a great time for Black business owners. He adds that every year he finds ways to celebrate and so the decision was an easy one to make. This collaboration is just one that exists within the ecosystem here in the Historic 4th Avenue Business District. “I want to support the district and welcome talks with others so we can work together,” says Mr. Gratton, which is what community is all about.

Expansion has always been a vision for Andrew Jones, so his dream of expanding his service of apparel collaborations to legacy staples in our community is a great step towards that goal. Fly V has had apparel partnerships with: Morehouse vs. Tuskegee, Protect Stadium and The 2022 World Games. In 2023 Drew wants to make it a priority to expand this part of his business and brand by connecting with other Black Business owners and brand their potential apparel lines. “It’s a service that’s needed,” Jones shared.
