The INSPIRE Program
The INSPIRE Program (Innovating Neighborhoods through Small-Business Placemaking, Incubation, Revitalization, and Entrepreneurship) is transforming Jefferson County by investing in the people who fuel our local economy.
At the center of this work is the Urban Impact Culinary Training Kitchen Incubator (CTKI), a vacant property now being reimagined as a dynamic training hub where emerging culinary entrepreneurs receive the training, tools, and support they need to launch and grow their businesses.
CTKI
Urban Impact Culinary Training Kitchen
The Culinary Training Kitchen Incubator (CTKI) marks a transformative investment in Birmingham—revitalizing a long‑vacant property into a vibrant culinary training hub that blends modern innovation with historic preservation.
Designed to spark culinary entrepreneurship, the CTKI equips food‑based business owners with the space, tools, and support they need to grow. The facility will include:
- Commercial‑grade gas and electric equipment
- Fully equipped shared kitchen facilities
- Hands‑on learning and training environments
- Supportive resources for business development
By providing an accessible space for food preparation, hands-on training, and business development, the CTKI empowers local culinary creators to build sustainable businesses and contribute to a stronger, more prosperous Birmingham. This initiative safeguards a part of Birmingham’s history, while strengthening long-term sustainability and capacity for Jefferson County’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
For 45 years, Urban Impact has supported the dreamers and doers shaping Birmingham’s future. Now, your support can help launch the Culinary Training Kitchen Incubator—central to our $1,650,000 INSPIRE capital campaign. By giving today, you help equip over 75 culinary and creative entrepreneurs annually with the space, tools, and training they need to thrive.
