US Marshal’s Office (former Koplan Korner Building)

Urban Impact helped find the developer of the new offices for the U.S. Marshals locate a vacant building at the southeastern corner of Fourth Avenue North and 18^th Street, the site of the former Koplan’s Korner store.

Urban Impact then provided the developer extensive technical assistance and consulting in the project. To gain approval to demolish the existing vacant building, Urban Impact’s staff arranged a number of meetings with the City of Birmingham’s Planning and Permits Department and the Alabama Historical Society. Staff also coordinated meetings with the city’s Urban Design Review Committee to ensure the new building fit the architectural character of the existing business district.

Construction was completed in 2000. In addition to law enforcement offices, the building also houses office space for Birmingham’s U.S. Attorneys.
